A buddy of mine, Brian Taylor called and said he had just seen a big hog in his field, so we loaded up the dogs and turned out. Brian turned out his two campbell curs, and I turned out my cat dog cowboy, and my parker dog smoke. smoke made a big loop and came back to the field where the hogs had been feeding, so I loaded him back up in the trailer. about 15 min. later my cowboy dog started baying, then the campbell curs got their and it got quiet, then they all three were baying. as gritty as the cambells are we knew it was a good boar. we drove around and got with in 200 yards acourding to the GPS and I turned smoke to them. we got the bulldog and headed that way. when smoke got their, it got quiet agin, then all four dogs were baying. when we got their, the boar was in a small pond, so we worked our way around the side and got with in 20 yards of the hog and turned the bulldog loose and he jumped in and caught the hog and all the other dogs caught. after enjoying a swim in the pond, we got him pulled out and tied up and all dogs tied back. we took a look at the dogs and cowboy and one of the campbell curs were fine, but the other campbell cur had been stuck severil time, and smoke got stuck twice in the chest, twice in the back leg, and cut from his right shoulder up the right side of his neck, and cut my quick track coller almost into. the boar was around 200, with 2 inch teeth, just right to cut a dog. Larry I know you said smoke was out of Gregs dogs and he is the more stockey type dog, but I had know idea they were that gritty, but it was his first bad hog, all the rest have not been that bad so I guess he thought he would just run in there and catch and he got caught. I will post some pics of the hog later.
